A powerful new alliance has emerged to champion sustainable water management
and equity across Kenya. The Kenya National Association of Water Resources
Users Associations (KeNAWRUA), in partnership with the Water Resources
Authority (WRA), is leading a landmark collaboration bringing together Faith-Based
Organizations (FBOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in a shared
commitment to protect and restore Kenya’s water resources.
This joint effort has engaged key faith institutions — the Presbyterian Church of
East Africa (PCEA), Reformed Church of East Africa (RCEA), Pentecostal
Outreach Ministries Church (POMC), Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), Hindu
Council of Kenya (HCK), and the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims
(SUPKEM) — alongside the civil society organizations Green Faith, Anglican
development Service Kenya and Africa Water Ambassadors.
Together, KeNAWRUA and these partners have developed a Framework of
Collaboration, a guiding document that formalizes their partnership and defines joint
action on water injustices, community-based stewardship, and faith-inspired
advocacy for sustainable water governance.
Speaking during the unveiling, the partners emphasized that access to clean and
safe water is both a human right and a moral obligation. Through this
collaboration, they aim to mobilize communities, influence water policies, and amplify
the moral voice for climate and water justice across Kenya.
This unprecedented partnership uniting faith, governance, and grassroots action
signals a new era for Kenya’s water sector. When faith and community leadership
flow together, living water truly becomes a source of justice, peace, and shared prosperity.
